xlive.dll problem on Windows 8

I was running BattleStations: Pacific on Windows 8 for the first time when I encountered this problem: The ordinal 42 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\xlive.dll Here's what I did: 1. Uninstall All Windows Games, there are two of them. 2. Install the older version of Windows Games here . 3. Run it. The program will require an update, it's about 30MB. Download and install it. 4. Then I ran the game. The game ran Windows Game Live. 5. I chose to create an offline profile. Now I can play BattleStation: Pacific on Windows 8.

Forcing 4.3 Update on Your Nexus 4 and 7

My Nexus 7 was updated 2 days after Android 4.3 was released. It was neat. I didn’t know anything was going on, and after it had downloaded all the OS, it just prompted me to reboot to install the software. It was late and I was tired so I didn’t realize that I didn’t update the root, so I had a wonderful trip trying to root it back. Couldn’t do it with the same toolkit, not available for 4.3. I’ve waited long enough for Nexus 4, so when I read about a way to force the update I was intrigued. Here it is in a nutshell. Go to Apps in Setting. Opt of All Apps, that’s 2 swipe to the right in Apps. Look for Google Services Framework then opt Clear Data. Yes, you read right, no need to go back. Clear Data. Then you opt System Update in Setting > About Phone. Look, your phone thinks the last time it checked was in the 1970. Weird. Go Check Now. Your phone might update the 4.3, it might not. If it didn’t, don’t despair. Clear Data again. No, it’s not a mistake. Some people need to do

Game mode on Sony Bravia 4k UR3 reduce lag with Asus Pro P1440

I have lag using the TV as my laptop external monitor via hdmi. The laptop is Asus Pro P1440. Previous experience using an i7 gen 7 Spectre showed not noticeable lag, so naturally I blamed the laptop. I stumbled upon a menu in the TV picture mode: game mode and tried it with the laptop, Currently the lag is gone and I'm having a great time using the TV as a 3rd monitor. I'm also hooking an Dell P2419H monitor as a second monitor. It is bliss. I fire up Word and Mendeley to continue writing my dissertation. And then I blanked again :D There's just no excuse for procrastinators.
