Why Do Mac Apps Stay Open When I Hit The Red X Button?

It annoyed me for the longest time on this. It is apparent when you understand that they treat applications differently then Windows. If you go by precendence, Mac has been around longer. I don't know how that excuse the behavior ^O^
Anyway, a good article in How To Geek made it apparent to me.
