6 hours for OS installation?

I was very close to seriously considering smashing my laptop to the floor after trying to update Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 beta 2.

The error message is "errno 5". Here is the search result for that, mostly concerning hardware. Pulling out hardisk or RAM is not in my vocabulary and I refused to entertain that notion. I'll let the good folks in Ubuntu figure it out.
On the 7th hour (close after midnight), I found out that I didn't have to download a new image to burn. I can just download what I need from my current version of Ubuntu. Here, I found out that I can just type in "update-manager -d" in terminal (not as root, just as my current user account).
