Blackberry - BES = ?

This article shows the latest Blackberry using a different OS than RIM's. That to me shows 2 things:

  1. RIM acknowledge that their OS needs too much time to refine compared to use another's OS.
  2. They don't mind that this does not support BES (their enterprise supported system), hence they are not targetting corporate.

Not a surprise. Recently deciding on having a manufacturing facility in Malaysia, they are targeting Indonesia, a large consumer market. These are the people that bought the Nokia Communicator when it was flopping anywhere else. These are the people that bought the original Blackberry Bold to their 5 year olds and use them as mere phone. Most of them are not technologically savvy and they don't care. Why should they, they are the ones buying. This kind of market probably changed the bulky Blackberry to curvy and colorful ones (have you ever seen a purple Blackberry before?)

So, let's see, minus corporate push mail, that leaves the ubiquitus BBM. How long do you think that will support them?

In another way, like they always say, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."
